Agency, our individual action and intervention, is core to our humanity. The space or allotted physical area of influence to act in is our inherent right. These two combined actions allow presence and individual definition to arrive. It is a human experience. We are all given seasons of options, blessings, and guidance from our maker. If we inquire concerning those seasons, we can expect a clear path, definition, substance, and truth to surface for us. Self-discovery happens in the revealing of our maker's purpose for us in it. It takes agency of our own choice to seek it out.
This piece is comprised of individual components representing actions and place markers in life. Each piece is designed with intention in touchable foam with plastic and metal accents. There is one "set" of matching components in the system to leave the option of repeat actions and choices. They attach to the system on Velcro elastic cord. This allows the changing of placement, a unique arrangement, or removal of the pieces altogether. This also leaves open the option to add new components and designs for a new season in life.
The masks can be displayed or worn, and more can be added in the future. Masks are a metaphor for the person we present to the world. Some may choose to hang hats instead. They can represent the same variety of identities we present in our lives. Masks are armor. They protect. They hide what is precious to us, our identity, that we choose not reveal until we feel safe. They hide our vulnerability.
